APRIL 27, 2016
The regular monthly meeting of the St. William/St. John Parish Pastoral Council was held on April 27, 2016 at
St. William Church, Donnelly Hall, Williamstown, KY at 6:30 p.m. Paul Merz called the meeting to order in the absence of Stephen Bates.
Members Present: Father Hils, Amy Gutman, Deacon Mike Lyman, Paul Merz, Katie Clemons, Pat McDonough, Kathy McDonough (ex-officio Diane Pettit (ex officio).
Members absent: Stephen Bates, Judith Kirk, David Rose, Cathy Rose, Donna Schulcz and John Vrolijk.
Fr. Hils opened the meeting with prayer.
Paul called for approval of the Minutes from last meeting. There being 2 corrections made by Fr. Hils Kathy moved, Katie seconded, Minutes approved as corrected.
Old Business
A U.S. Hwy 25 sign – Diane handed out the sample that Scott had given her. Discussion was held on the sign and Paul advised he would contact Scott to work on the sign and will report back at next meeting.
B Business Manager Position. Deacon Mike advised that this has
been filled by Shelby Brown. He will try to introduce her to
parish council at June’s meeting.
C Deanery Pastoral Council – Deacon Mike advised nothing new to
add since last report.
D St. Vincent DePaul – Deacon Mike advised that SVdP has
proposed to supply a permanent bin here at our location which
will be for clothing, etc. They will empty it once a week.
After discussion Fr. Hils approved of placing the bin by the
back door to the pantry for outside access for dropping off
items.
A question was raised on windows at St. John and who did the work. Fr. Hils advised it was done by ralph Stephenson and sons from Covington. He advised the windows are done. Fr. Hils is looking into getting some decorative film for some of the windows.
A discussion was held on the roofing. Fr. Hils advised still getting estimates. A question raised on if the Diocese had to approve such projects and Deacon Mike advised usually if it is over $3,000. Don Knuckleman came to or parish several years ago and looked at everything and we tried to address all the issues he raised.
Open Issues
A Deacon Mike reported on the One Call Messaging system. He
advised it should be ready to go online next week. He passed
around a sheet so that he would have accurate contact
information for Parish Council. Each group in parish will have
its own messenger to provide information.
B St. John Furnace – Fr. Hils he had not gotten any estimates
but wished to just table this for now.
C Spiritual – Kathy advised First Communion would be May 1.
There are 7 children this year. May Crowning will be May 8.
The last CCD class will be May 15.
The Youth Group with Brian and Sunshine are doing well. The
kids have come up with various ideas to raise money. They plan
to go to St. Joseph Cemetery in May. They have proposed a
Parish Festival for August 6. They plan to take charge of this
event with movies, games, corn hole, bingo, split-the-pot, etc.
They plan to sell pop, hot dogs, hamburgers. Everyone agreed this was a good idea.
Kathy advised she would be having Vacation Bible School
July 11-15 with the theme Miracles of the Bible.
D Steps, Donnelly Hall – maintenance committee worked on them
and they are complete.
Amy raised a discussion on Donut Sunday May 22. She is not
available and asked how to handle. After discussion it was
decided there would not be a Donut Sunday in May.
New Business
Finance Update – Deacon passed out the financial reports and
reviewed them. For St. William the building maintenance
donations are up and we got our rebate from DPAA of $3,000. The
Fish Fry gave us a profit of $16,000 and this is our 3rd best.
To date the current DPAA is almost to goal on pledges.
For St. John there finances are flat for the year.
Deacon Mike outlined a new accrual fund proposed wherein on
in an accrual fund to have money for such things as the roof
repairs and capital campaign.
Deacon Mike handed out a Project List which has been put together with various items which need to be addressed.
The Blanchet Cemetery is need of maintenance in addition to the
work the Clemons family does. He has talked to Don Knucklman
and he will come look at it and we will go from there.
Fr. Hils stated that our website is not working. There is
nothing listed there. We need to hire someone part time several
hours a week to take pictures and post information weekly.
After discussion it was decided that a notice will be placed in
the bulletin advertising for a “Part time position to update our
website on a weekly basis” and see if anyone is interested.
Amy brought up the fact that we will need candidates for Parish
Council as she and Stephen Bates will be going off this year.
Everyone is to think of names and this was tabled to next
meeting.
Next Meeting The next meeting would be set for Wednesday,
June 22, 2016. There will be no meeting in May because of the Rome trip and Fr. Hils and Deacon Mike are unavailable. The time will be 6:30 p.m.
Katie moved to adjourn, seconded by Amy, motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
