5) The Paschal Candle is the large candle which is on a wooden stand and a new one is lit each year from a fire at the Easter Vigil. The candle is made of pure beeswax representing the purity of Christ. The Candle represents Christ’s presence in the Church particularly through the Easter Season until Pentecost. It is used at Baptisms and funerals both as Christ is present in a particular and intense way at both events.
